Volunteer Opportunities

The Equine Science Intern Program

This is a volunteer program for which high school teenagers can earn Volunteer hours from Burning Tree for required educational credits. If accepted into the Program, it also enables the acquisition of a variety of personal resources such as the capacity for teamwork and strategic planning, as well as practical life skills and physical fitness. Participants will gain the necessary knowledge to perform the various horse care tasks involved in basic horse care – grooming, stall cleaning, leading, turning horses out and bringing them back in, tacking up horses, untacking horses, and cleaning tack. Advanced students may participate in rehabbing injured or rescue horses. Sturdy footwear and a riding helmet is required.

The Pass It On Program

Once the task of grandparents, this is a group experience for adults who wish to learn how to mentor and pass their knowledge on to others. Teaching is a calling, and done well can not only provide fulfilling meaning for the mentor but creates future leaders. Pass It On graduates may participate in Burning Tree’s varied mentoring activities. The Pass It On Program is free to Burning Tree Members.
